How Does COVID-19 Spread?

Like many respiratory viruses, including flu, Covid-19 can be spread in tiny droplets released from the nose and mouth of an infected person as they cough. A single cough can produce up to 3,000 droplets. These particles can land on other people, clothing and surfaces around them, like a light switch!!

How Long Do The Droplets Stay of Surfaces?

According to a study conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), scientists found that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, can be detected in aerosols for up to three hours and on plastic and stainless steel surfaces for up to three days.

Where Does InstaHub Come Into This?

The SoLAR is a product of InstaHub that makes it easy to keep the light switches free of the droplets. It is a device you attach to your switch that automates it. By being hands-free, we don't have to touch the switch, or go anywhere near it. We already touch so many surfaces out of necessity, reducing even one can go a long way. It is helping prevent the spread of the virus!
The SoLAR is also useful for reducing energy waste. Thanks to the quarantine, more time is being spent at home and energy consumpution is at an all time high. This technology can ease the dilemma of having to choose health safety over environmental friendly practices.

The amount of energy we are consuming at home during quarantine

Thanks to the quarantine, we are spending an average of 8 hours more per day in the house. Studies show that even refrigerators are consuming more electricity. With Americans remaining home all day, it’s likely they are opening the refrigerator more than they would had they left the house for work, meaning the appliance has to work harder to keep the inside cold. Even our streaming consumption is up. A recent study from UK-based consumer resource Save on Energy reported that viewers streamed the third season of Netflix original series Stranger Things a cool 64 million times, resulting in over 189 million kg of CO2. That’s the equivalent of driving 420 million miles. Individually that means that watching the season once resulted in 2.95 kg of CO2 which is equivalent of driving 2.23 miles. Now that might not sound like a lot in single terms but thats only 8 episodes. The most watched show during the quarantine is The Office, which has an average of 22 episodes per season. This means an uptake in your electricity bill as well as a continued carbon footprint. So, to cut consumption short where possible, we came up with an affordable motion sensor that can be installed in just 2 minutes that can save you electricity and reduce your carbon footprint without effort!
