Sustainability Program

38% of global carbon emissions come from buildings, and

Students can help identify, quantify, and address building energy waste ON CAMPUS.

As part of the InstaHub Sustainability Program, students will gain invaluable experience planning and executing a scalable sustainability initiative with access and support from our team at a Forbes-featured and award-winning startup.

Ambassador Gutmann assumed her position as the U.S. Ambassador to Germany in February 2022. She was previously the University of Pennsylvania's longest serving President from 2004-2022. She was appointed in 2009 by President Obama to chair the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues, a role she held for seven years.

As an active member in the InstaHub Sustainability Program, you…

  • will gain instruction and experience in measuring lighting/HVAC energy waste in buildings

  • will conduct stakeholder analysis and engage with director/s of sustainability, energy, and/or facilities management

  • will learn how to build an advisory team, project plan, and funding proposal to support your pilot project on campus

  • will work with time-series data to analyze energy waste patterns and prescribe solutions to reducing energy waste on campus

Once successful you…

  • will present your findings, share your experience with your community (staffs/students), and expand your project

  • will learn from and potentially partner with other network of schools collaborating with InstaHub

“Truly plug and play.

“I have tried other dataloggers to identify building energy waste, other competing products still 1) require battery/wiring, 2) creating my own network for the data backhaul, 3) downloading the data has to be done via USB or bluetooth, and 4) even then its just a CSV file I have to analyze. The most compelling feature of InstaHub’s datalogger is that is it's truly plug-and-play. Our students spent seconds deploying each datalogger across floors. The savings from the labor cost alone pays for the product itself.”

— Joe Dizon, Energy Systems Analyst at University of California Santa Cruz

"The plug-and-play aspect of the InstaHub’s multi-sensor datalogger made them very easy to deploy in the field. The user interface for viewing the data was also very intuitive to look at the data we have collected."

—Abel Ruan & Thomas McMaster, Students at University of California Santa Cruz

Project Breakdown

  • InstaHub will teach you about the reality and scale of global carbon emissions and energy waste from buildings, and show you how to identify, calculate, and address energy waste wherever you are.

  • You will work with InstaHub to identify waste in buildings at your school. You will plan the scale of your project, including the number of DataLoggers you will employ and the buildings in which they’ll be deployed. You will draft a budget and plan a gofundme campaign to support the project budget.

  • You will create a proposal with your advisor with transparent budget for the project and submit to the identified decision maker at your school to provide funding to your initiative.

  • You will receive your project’s gateway and DataLoggers, and will implement them in your chosen buildings. Throughout the following weeks, you will utilize the energy usage data they provide to identify waste and clear steps to reduce it.

  • After deploying your pilot, and collecting and digesting your data, you and InstaHub’s Sustainability and Marketing teams will work together to share your suggestions and success with your school and your community, inviting longevity and expansion of the project and its impact.

Our tools are simple,
